Debra Scroggins, Composer-in-Residence for The Texas Voices since 2005, is known for her lyrical and emotionally engaging compositions. More than a dozen of her compositions have been given their premiere performances by The Texas Voices, and her music is being performed throughout the U.S., in Europe, and as far away as Russia and South America. In 2013, her music was heard in several televised concerts in Bogotá, Colombia, performed by the Coro Infantil y Juvenil de Colombia, a 100-voice auditioned youth choir organized by the Colombian Ministry of Culture.
In addition to the choral works commissioned by The Texas Voices, Debra has received numerous commissions from choral directors’ associations, universities, school districts and churches, including the TMEA Region 25 2013 All-Region Combined Choirs, the Western Oklahoma ACDA High School Honor Choir and the Oklahoma MEA All State Women’s Choir. Her music is often heard at the TCDA and ACDA conventions. Debra was also named Texas Music Teachers Association Commissioned Composer for 2010, and for the 2013-14 season. She also serves as Composer-in-Residence for Plano Civic Chorus.
